The FAQ

What exactly is a documentary wedding photographer?

A Documentary Wedding Photographer tells the story of your wedding day, through candid, unposed images.
It allows you to spend all your time with your friends and family, not having those awkward times with formal and other group photos.
Documentary Wedding Photography tells a true story of your wedding day. It is known by many other names like wedding photojournalism, documentary wedding photography and reportage wedding photography.

Do you Travel?

Yes, I am based in the beautiful capital city of Windhoek, Namibia. I can and will travel anywhere to photograph your wedding. I have photographed weddings all over Namibia, South Africa and even a some in Europe.

How would you describe your style of photography?

I classify myself as a documentary wedding photojournalist. My day is spent by unobtrusively capturing your unique story.
My aim is to observe your wedding day as it naturally unfolds. I always try to be part of the action and blend in with the guests as much as possible to allow for images from their perspective. On the odd occasion I may ask you to “pretend” for a photo, but that is very rare as I believe your day should unfold naturally without interruptions.
My wedding couples understand that this involves me capturing the real moments from their wedding day. The photos tell a true story of the day and nothing is fabricated.

Do you do preparations before our wedding?

About 3-4 weeks before the wedding I will send you a questionnaire to complete. We can also go through those details over Skype or at a coffee shop (a good coffee shop is always preferred!). The questionnaire covers many details of your day e.g. timelines, names of important people, must-have photos etc.
My car is regularly serviced, and I ensure to leave ample time for any travel to any location to avoid unforeseen circumstances. I like to have plenty of time before the day start to meet and greet people and familiarize myself with the location.
I use two high-end professional cameras on the day and ensure backups of photos is done throughout the day.

Do we only receive colour photos or black & white as well? How does your editing work?

I capture your wedding day with professional high-end cameras. All images are hand-edited by myself and includes colour correcting, cropping and conversion to my personal signature photo emulation.
All images are delivered in colour and a personal selected amount in black & white.
All couples have the option to have their whole wedding edited in monochrome as a duplicate set of images.

Do you take group photos?

Although I document weddings as the day unfolds, I understand that many wedding couples still require some traditional group photos. With the help of the best man or another suitable person, I can capture those family and group photos swiftly. Guest usually do not want to wait for group photos to be taken, therefor this part of the wedding day is done quickly and professionally for everyone to go on enjoying the rest of the day.
Different cultures have different requirements for those more “formal photos” e.g. Indian and other Asian weddings. In this context of larger weddings with a larger number of formal photos, please consider a second photographer to capture these moments. This will allow me to focus on documenting those other unique moments of your wedding day.

Whats your turn around time?

cherish your wedding day and all the photos that captured your unique story. Therefore, please allow up to 8 weeks to complete the editing of all your photos. Depending on the peak wedding season times, delivery of your photos is usually much quicker. You will receive an email with a link where you can download your photos in high resolution and “social media ready” formats. This link is available for up to 3 months.
If you have ordered a wedding album, this may take up to 6-8 weeks to complete the design, production, printing, and delivery process.

How do we book you?

Contact me at any time to find out about available date.
To confirm your wedding day booking, I require a completed and signed contract together with a non-refundable booking fee of N$4500 to secure my services for your wedding date.
I cannot confirm any dates without the signed contract form and retainer payment. The remainder of the balance is due 14 days before the wedding date.

Can you help us with planning?

For sure! I do have a list of trusted vendors that I share with my couples. I also assist in the timeline of your wedding day to ensure everythings runs smoothly.

How far out do you book?

I only take a select amount of weddings per year to ensure the highest quality of service to all my couples. For that reason bookings are taken 8 - 12 months in advance.

Are you insured?

Yes, I am fully insured. My insurance includes professional indemnity insurance along with public liability insurance. In recent years, many venues require service providers to show proof of appropriate insurance in case of any mishaps.
